India’s second-largest airline by passengers, SpiceJet has acquired Travenues, a Bengaluru-based airline technology company subsidiary of online travel startup Ixigo which builds e-commerce products for airlines.
As per the deal, SpiceJet will hold the authority for Travenues technology stack and commerce platforms. The 15 member team of Travenues that specializes in mobile apps, cross-selling, payments, engagement, user experience, and personalization will join SpiceJet. Travenues had also partnership with SpiceJet last year, for the digital transformation of its consumer-facing experiences, and to build a mobile website and airline’s booking apps.
Ashish Vikram, Chief Technology and Innovation Officer of SpiceJet saif,
“This acqui-hire will help SpiceJet to strengthen its e-commerce platforms as we will continue to innovate across multiple technology areas and achieve our vision of being the worldwide leader in aviation technology.”
Ixigo focuses on travel bookings, which had already bounced back to 25-30% of pre-COVID levels and Travenues is its B2B arm and for a year they don’t have plans to scale up. Ixigo wanted to help airlines power their consumer experiences through B2B offerings and to help airlines with enhancing user experience by different services through Travenues last year.
Aloke Bajpai, Co-Founder of Ixigo said that this acqui-hire is a win-win, as they wanted to focus entirely on their B2C business, and though it will take considerable effort and investments to sign up more airlines and to scale up their B2B offerings through Travenues.
