On Friday, Yandex (NASDAQ:YNDX) Market, owned by Russian internet giant Yandex, reported that it had agreed to buy up the inventory of IKEA, the Swedish furniture company. It is to be noted that IKEA has closed its shops in Russia.
Yandex signed binding documents on November 16 for buying more than 20 million IKEA products, from stuffed toys to furniture, left over from the summer’s final online sale. The company further said it would start selling the products before the end of this year.
Reportedly, Yandex is likely to sell the items in a section of its online marketplace designated ‘IKEA goods’. This combines products from production sites in Russia, shop inventory and IKEA items brought from overseas.
Earlier this year, the Swedish furniture giant IKEA decided to close its shops in Russia after the latter’s ‘special military operation’ in Ukraine. Many other western firms- from food and clothing chains to energy producers- have already stopped their operations in Russia.
