According to state media, Chinese President Xi Jinping has pledged to advance “world peace” in a New Year’s message to Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Xi Jinping emphasised China’s commitment to deepening reform and promoting world peace despite changes in the international situation.

Since Russia invaded Ukraine in 2022, China has positioned itself as neutral, maintaining close ties with Russia.

NATO members have criticised China for enabling the war, as China has not condemned it.

Xi and Putin highlighted their countries’ non-alignment and cooperation amid global tensions.

Xi referred to Putin as his “best friend,” while Putin values Xi as his “reliable partner.”

The year 2024 marks the 75th anniversary of China-Russia diplomatic relations, symbolising a milestone in their strong partnership.

Xi noted that China-Russia relations have grown more mature and stable over the years.
