Shares of Wockhardt Ltd. surged 4%, reaching a day’s high of Rs 1,126.50 on 16th October, after the company announced it had filed its fast-acting insulin analog, Aspart injection (ASPARAPID), with the Drug Controller General of India.

According to a company press release, the Aspart insulin injection, developed in India, will be available in cartridges, vials, and prefilled disposable pens, providing flexibility for diabetes management.

Wockhardt emphasized that the indigenous development of these products showcases its comprehensive capabilities in research and development, clinical studies, scale-up, and manufacturing of biosimilar products.

Dr. Habil Khorakiwala, Wockhardt’s founder and chairman, stated that their goal is to make world-class diabetes care accessible to patients in India and worldwide while contributing significantly to diabetes management.

Through in-house development, the company has successfully completed all stages of developing the aspart injection, from research to production.

Wockhardt reported that the current market size for Aspart in India is estimated at over Rs 260 crore, with only two competitors, and it is expected to grow significantly in the coming years.

As part of its strategy to enhance diabetes care and management, the company is also working on developing additional insulin analogues and GLP-1 agonists.

Wockhardt noted that introducing these new products will strengthen its diabetes portfolio and provide patients with more effective treatment options.
