Volvo Cars has said that it is going to start vehicle assembly operations in India in 2017. This will help the company to grow further in the premium car segment in India.
The assembly operations are going to be located near Bengaluru in southern India and will focus on models based on Volvo’s SPA modular vehicle architecture.
The first model which be assembled there is the XC90 SUV, while additional models slated for local assembly are going to be announced at a later stage.
Hakan Samuelsson, President and CEO of Volvo Cars has said that “I am pleased that as of this year we will be able to start selling Volvos that are made in India.”
He further said that “Starting vehicle assembly in India is an important step for Volvo Cars as we aim to grow our sales in this fast-growing market and double our market share in the luxury segment in coming years.”
