Tejas Networks, in a strategic move, announced on Tuesday, 10 December, that it has signed a three-year contract with Vodafone Idea. This contract aims to supply optical transmission solutions for network performance, thereby accelerating the launch of 4G and 5G across all circles.
Jagbir Singh, CTO of Vodafone Idea, said, “As VIL accelerates its pan-India 4G and 5G rollouts, it is critical to upgrade our backhaul network to be scalable, robust and future-ready to efficiently manage the expected growth in data traffic and rising bandwidth demands.”
This strategic move is expected to significantly enhance Vodafone Idea’s capabilities, enabling the company to grow and build a robust 4G and 5G network across India.
According to Tejas Networks’ CEO and MD, Anand Athreya, the company’s solutions “drastically lower the cost and energy per bit” while meeting the changing demands of communication service providers like VIL.
Tejas announced that as part of the agreement, it will supply Vodafone Idea with TJ1400 and TJ1600 packet and optical transmission equipment. TJ1400 is made to give mobile backhaul, internet access, enterprise, and network modernization at a reasonable cost. The network infrastructure that links cell towers to the telecom service provider’s wired network is known as “mobile backhaul.”
Tejas has been working with Voda Idea on a Proof of Concept, and they had stated in October that they “hope to see business coming at the end of it,” though the process might take a bit longer.
