INS Vikrant, India’s First Indigenous Aircraft Carrier Commissioned by PM Modi

Vikrant INS India's First Indigenous Aircraft Carrier Is Commissioned By PM Modi_eq
The Indigenous Aircraft Carrier (IAC) bears the name of her historic predecessor, India's first aircraft carrier, which had an essential role in the war of 1971.

At Kochi’s Cochin Shipyard Limited, Prime Minister Narendra Modi commissioned the nation’s first aircraft carrier, INS Vikrant, on Friday. When PM Modi arrived for the INS Vikrant’s commissioning ceremony in Kerala, he was greeted by the Guard of Honor.

The colonial history was then abandoned when he introduced the new Naval Ensign (Nishaan). Flags used by naval vessels or formations to indicate nationality are known as naval ensigns. The St. George’s Cross, which has a red cross on a white backdrop, serves as the current Indian Naval Ensign. When India gained independence, the Union Jack was replaced with the Indian flag in the corner of the cross.

A significant day for India’s attempts to become Aatmanirbhar in the defence sector, according to Modi, was marked by the commissioning of the nation’s first aircraft carrier on September 2.

Numerous dignitaries, including Navy Chief Admiral R. Hari Kumar, top Navy and Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) personnel, Governor Arif Mohamad Khan, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, Ernakulam MP Hibi Eden, and Defence Minister Rajnath attended the occasion.

Vikrant was developed with cutting-edge automation elements by Cochin Shipyard Limited under the Indian Navy’s internal Warship Design Bureau (WDB) design.

It has a significant number of locally produced machinery and equipment, including more than 100 MSMEs and major industrial companies like BEL, BHEL, GRSE, Keltron, Kirloskar, Larsen & Toubro, and Wartsila India. India will have two operational aircraft carriers after Vikrant is commissioned, which would improve the country’s maritime security.
