Venture studio IndusDC has committed to invest Rs 100 crore in startups focusing on clean-energy solutions. These startups will receive up to INR 20 crore in funding, which will come from a combination of grants, equity, and debt.

IndusDC targets startups working on cutting down one gigaton of carbon dioxide emissions by 2035. The studio plans to identify and support deep-tech startups across India for the fiscal year 2024-25.

Deep tech, often called deep technology, encompasses startups that build their business model around leveraging high-tech innovations in engineering or significant scientific advancements. 

The term “deep tech” is coined to distinguish these startups from those focused on “shallow tech”, emphasising the depth and complexity of the technology and science involved in their products and services.

Mirik Gogri of Spectrum Impact, the family office of Aarti Industries Ltd’s promoters, has already secured a commitment agreement for the first five startups.

The studio, founded in 2023 in India, is led by a team of experts, including serial entrepreneur and alumni of IIT-Madras and University of Southern California Kushant Uppal, Satyanarayanan Seshadri, a professor at IIT-M and founder of the IIT Madras initiative ‘Energy Consortium’, and Kaustubh Hanmantgad, an expert in behaviour analytics and team building.

IndusDC aims to provide funding and support for startups moving from the development phase to the market. The studio is committed to establishing benchmarks for an IP-focused decarbonisation venture studio and making it an attractive asset class for investors.

The studio also secured support from entrepreneurs and angel investors, including Ashish Gupta of Helion Venture Partners and Sri Myneni of Knoah Solutions.

The company intends to strengthen its network further by securing additional commitment agreements with strategic investors for grants, equity, and debt in FY25.
