Vedanta Resources, which has the largest single investment of Rs 80,000 crore in Odisha, said on Wednesday it plans to inject another Rs 25,000 crore to expand its aluminium, ferrochromium and mining operations in the state.
The company statement said that this investment contributes almost 4% to Odisha’s GDP through its operations (directly and indirectly).
Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik held a meeting with Vedanta Resources Chairman Anil Agarwal in Mumbai during the ‘Made in Odisha 2022’ roadshow. The statement quoted Agarwal as saying the company had created more than 500,000 livelihood opportunities and nurtured hundreds of MSMEs in the state.
He also said that the company “has made new investments of over Rs 25,000 crore based on expanding its aluminium, ferrochromium and mining businesses, which will generate more jobs and income in the country”.
We have also established one of the largest aluminium industrial parks in the country near the Jharsuguda smelter to boost the domestic aluminium downstream ecosystem, Agarwal said, adding that Odisha’s rich culture, skilled manpower and natural resource sector are conducive to enhancing the GDP of the country.
