The latest Compact Crossover recently teased by Volkswagen has been a project for the US market that it has quietly been working on. The reveal is scheduled this year on October 13 in the USA. Based on the assigned lineup, the new compact crossover comes after Taigun and is predicted to showcase similar dimensions such as the Taigun compact SUV revealed at the Auto Expo 2020.
The teaser showcased the front outline with details on wide track and sleek headlamps. Similarities include that of the Volkswagen Tharu sold by the German carmaker in China. Like the Seltos, the daytime running light strip goes till the logo.
Further information has not been provided, but the company said it would soon reveal details in a small package. Scott Keogh, President and CEO of Volkswagen Group of America, said, “We’re excited to share the first glimpse of the newest member of the Volkswagen family. Great things come in small packages, as Volkswagen has proven throughout the years with its iconic Beetle, Golf and Jetta. This next car will be no exception.”
Initial reports covered Volkswagen’s plans for launching a new crossover model for US and Canadian markets, speculated to be titled Tarek, taking inspiration from the Tharu.
The Tharu gets the option of a 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol engine and a 2.0-litre engine which are mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox while is offered in both front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive modes.
