US Stocks Close Mixed, Dow Jones Up for 10 Straight Sessions

S&P 500 and the Nasdaq Composite fell 0.6% each, while Dow Jones slumped 200 points.

Stocks on Wall Street ended Friday’s trading session mixed, with Healthcare, Oil, Gas and Utilities segments propelling and Finance and Technology sectors leading shares lower. The Dow Jones Industrial Average continued its longest rally in almost six years, with a marginal rise on Friday, hitting a fresh 52-week high.

Procter & Gamble, Intel Corp and Merck & Company Inc were the biggest gainers in the session for Dow Jones, while American Express and Microsoft Corporation were among the biggest losers.

At the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE), the S&P 500 index closed 0.03% higher at 4,536.34 points, and the NASDAQ Composite index declined 0.22% to 14,032.81 points. Digital World Acquisition Corp, Zoetis Inc and Fresh Tracks Therapeutics were the top performers in both these indices.

Among the blue-chip MAANG stocks, Nvidia and Meta lost over 2% each in the volatile session on July 21. Netflix also slipped for a second straight day after the video streaming company’s quarterly results this week failed to impress.

In the commodities market, Gold Futures with August delivery were down 0.34%, and September delivery Crude oil rose by 1.71% to $76.94 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 1.53% or 1.22 to trade at $80.86 a barrel.

Market participants are waiting for the July 25-26 meeting of the Federal Reserve (Fed). Many expect a 25 basis points hike in the benchmark interest rate.
