On 19 August, the United States announced they would give Ukraine Scan Eagle surveillance drones, mine-resistant vehicles, anti-armour round and howitzer weapons to help Ukrainian forces regain territory from the Russian invasion of Ukraine. The package of $775 million will be sent by the US, which includes 15 Scan Eagles, 40 mines resistant, ambush-protected vehicles, commonly known as MRAPs with mine clearing rollers, and 2,000 anti armour round. Moving forward in the South and East, Russian forces have placed mines, said officially by the US.
“These capabilities are carefully calibrated to make the most difference on the battlefield and strengthen Ukraine’s position at the negotiating table,” Secretary of State Antony Blinken said in a statement.
“We have taken another important step to defeating the aggressor,” Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy tweeted his appreciation for the package yesterday.
About 10.6 billion has reached Ukraine as total US military aid since the beginning of the Biden administration. It is the 19th time the Pentagon has provided equipment from Defense Department stock to Ukraine since August 2021.
Previously, howitzer ammunition was provided by the US; it is the first time that the we will send 16 weapon systems. This package also includes 1,500 anti-tank missiles, 1,000 javelin missiles, and several high-speed anti-radiation or HARM missiles, undisclosed target radar systems.
