upGrad Takes Over Impartus, Commits Rs 150 Crore Towards Buyout

upGrad has acquired Impartus, a video-enabled learning solutions provider, and committed over Rs 150 crore towards acquisition and investment into the firm. With this buyout, upGrad which primarily targets working professionals hopes to strengthen its presence in India’s higher education market. Impartus develops innovative technology solutions for education, together with virtual classrooms that allow for learner-teacher engagement. It claims to put together more than 280 higher educational institutes, 50,000 teachers, and 6 lakh learners in seven years.

“All our M&As are completely thought through, strategic, and aimed towards powering career success for each member of the global workforce as their trusted lifelong learning partner,” said Gaurav Kumar, President of upGrad.
Impartus, now a 100 per cent subsidiary of upGrad, has been integrated into its system and rebranded as ‘upGrad Campus’, as per the statement released on Monday. “It is looking to close FY22 with around Rs 85 crore revenue, with the founders continuing to run and grow the business independently,” the statement added.

“One of the major challenges faced by graduates in India is their lack of industry-ready and employable skill sets,” upGrad Campus CEO Amit Mahensaria said. “The synergy of Impartus and upGrad will pave the way for augmenting college education by helping learners upskill with new-age courses, thus elevating their candidature for better career prospects.” The Indian edtech sector is expected to grow ten times over the next five years to become a $5 billion market by 2025, according to a recent report by Red Seer Consulting, an internet-focused consulting firm.
