On Monday, the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) would open debate on a draft resolution rebuking the annexation of four Ukrainian territories, as Western powers desire to underscore Moscow’s international isolation. The session could reveal whether Russia’s international isolation is growing as its war grinds.
On September 29, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, stated that the UN charter is clear, and any annexation of a state’s territory by another state resulting from the threat or use of force violates the principles of the UN Charter and international law. He also stated that any attempt to annex Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson, and Zaporizhzhia would have no legal value and be a dangerous escalation.
Immediately after this, Russia used its veto in the UN Security Council to block the proposal. As a result of this UN meeting, veto powers are forbidden. In addition to the debate, the countries will be asked about their stance on the issue by voting on a European-drafted resolution condemning Russia’s annexation of Ukraine.
The draft condemns Russian annexations are illegal and have no validity under international law; the draft calls on all the states and international organisations to decline the annexation and demand the withdrawal of Russian Troops from Ukraine.

In response, Vassily Nebenzia, the Russian ambassador, criticized the UN members in a letter stating that they only pursue their geopolitical objectives. Also, Russia has claimed that Western delegations have nothing to do with the protection of International law and the principle of the UN charter. The US has been applying Huge pressure upon other allies, states and UN members.
