UN Undersecretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator Martin Griffiths announced a support fund worth $12 million from the UN Central Emergency Response Fund to help the people affected by Typhoon Rai in the Philippines.
The funds will help 220,000 people in food security, protection, water and sanitation hygiene, camp management, shelter and logistics, and telecommunications in the Caraga region. Six hundred thirty-one thousand houses have been replaced, and about 200,000 homes have been damaged. People are in urgent need of emergency shelter, drinking water and food. The UN launched a humanitarian need and a need for 106.5 million dollars, targeting 530,000 people in the worst-hit areas.
