United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said that fight between Taliban and Afghan security forces is “tremendously harming” and called all the parties to take attention to the conflict’s impact on civilians. Guterres warned that attacking civilians is a serious violation of international and humanitarian law and is a war crime.
“The battle between the Taliban and Afghan forces is creating huge harm. At least 241,000 people have been moved out of their homes. The battle is causing huge harm to women and children. Criminals must be held liable,” he said.
“Afghanistan is getting out of control. In the last month, about 1,000 people were killed or injured from indiscriminate attacks against civilians. Mainly in Helmund, Kandahar and Herat regions,” he added.
