UK Home Secretary Sajid Javid today has signed the order to extradite Vijay Mallya has been facing charges of fraud, money laundering, and violation of Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA).
Earlier in December last year, Westminster Magistrates’ Court passed on the case to the Home Secretary for a decision on extradition. The Home Secretary has given a verdict against the fugitive liquor baron who has defaulted to an extent of Rs 9,000 Cr. He now has 14 days from February 4 to apply for leave to appeal to the UK High Court.
“On February 3 the secretary of state, having carefully considered all relevant matters, signed the order for Vijay Mallya’s extradition to India,” a home office spokesperson said.
