While other tech companies are making it necessary to get a vaccine for on-campus employees, Twitter is closing its reopened offices in the United States. The highly infectious Delta variant is forcing an increase in Covid-19 cases. Google and Facebook said that all US employees must get vaccinated before rejoining offices. Google is also thinking to expand its vaccination drive to other countries in the upcoming months.
“Twitter has decided to close our offices in New York and San Francisco as well as halt future office reopenings, effective immediately,” a company spokesperson said. “We are closely monitoring local conditions and make necessary changes that prioritise the health and safety of our Tweeps,” the spokesperson added. Three months ago, US CDC suggested that vaccinated people no longer need to wear masks but now has urged people to resume wearing masks amid the increasing delta variant.
The new guidelines also said that people who live in high-transmission areas wear masks in indoor public spaces, even if they have been vaccinated. Google and Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai said the employees need to be vaccinated before returning to the offices. Apple will require customers and staff at most of its retail stores to wear masks even if they are vaccinated. Facebook and Amazon have also applied similar policies around vaccination and wearing masks.
