Twitter has launched a privacy-protected version of its site to avoid surveillance and censorship after Russia blocked access to its services in the country. Russia has also blocked access to Facebook to limit the information about its war in Ukraine. Both social media platforms have said they are working on restoring access to people in Russia even after they restrict the country’s state media from their services.
Users can access this version of Twitter if they have downloaded the Tor browser, allowing people to access sites on the dark web. Instead of .com, these sites have a .onion suffix. Facebook and other places like the BBC also have versions on Tor.
