The first Amazon job listing posted by Jeff Bezos has gone viral online. The title of the job offer, which was dated August 22, 1994, read, “Well-capitalised Seattle start-up seeks Unix developers.” Journalist and TV personality Jon Erlichman posted a screenshot of the job posting on the microblogging site Twitter.
Applications for Unix programmers are requested by the listing. Bezos stated in the post, “You must have expertise developing and building huge and complicated systems, and you should be able to do so in around one-third the time that most competent people consider achievable. It continues, “Or the equivalent, you should have a BS, MS, or PhD in Computer Science.”
What stands out about the job description is how it emphasises the equal opportunity for all parties in its concluding paragraph. According to the job posting on Amazon, “We are an equal opportunity company.”
