American fast-food chain The Wendy’s Company has announced a collaboration with its master franchisee Sierra Nevada Restaurants and Rebel Foods to expand its physical restaurants and cloud kitchen presence in India over the next decade.
Sequoia Capital-backed Rebel Foods will partner with Sierra Nevada Restaurants to launch and operate approximately 250 Wendy’s cloud kitchens pan-India. “By partnering with the Rebel Foods network of existing kitchens in India, Wendy’s will get immediate access to rapid scale across the country, at far lower levels of capital,” said Kallol Banerjee, Co-Founder, Rebel Foods. It is the first time that an international brand looks forward to building a national presence through cloud kitchens, he added.
Rebel Foods was founded by Jaydeep Barman and Kallol Banerjee in 2010. Currently, the cloud kitchen specialist runs close to 325 cloud kitchens across 35 cities in India under brands like Faasos, Behrouz Biryani, FirangiBakes, The Good Bowl, and Mandarin Oak, among others. It has also a huge presence on the leading food delivery platforms such as Zomato and Swiggy, and it generates over 50 per cent of its demand from these platforms. Other than India, the company also operates in Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and Europe.
