Tech Giants Google and Nvidia to Enhance AI Focused Investments in India

AI might have a sizable impact on the labour market, which may in turn pose a threat to India’s prosperity.

Google and Nvidia, two technology giants, are planning to increase their involvement in India, with a specific focus on utilising artificial intelligence technology in the country, according to top officials of the companies. This announcement came after a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday.

Nvidia’s CEO Jensen Huang, a major player in Graphics Processing Units (GPUs), stated that the Prime Minister has consistently shown interest in understanding artificial intelligence, its potential, and its opportunities for India.

Nvidia is estimated to dominate 88% of the GPU market, which is highly sought after for AI workloads globally. Huang noted that India is home to some of the world’s most exceptional computer scientists, presenting a significant opportunity.

He also emphasised that Artificial Intelligence (AI) represents a new industry and manufacturing sector. Huang expressed his eagerness to establish deep partnerships with India to make this a reality.

He mentioned that they already have numerous alliances in India and are assisting the country in accessing their most advanced technologies. Nvidia has collaborated with Yotta Data Services, which aims to expand its GPU capacity to 32,768 units by the end of 2025.

Huang highlighted that India boasts the world’s third-largest startup economy, with the work of new generations of startups largely based on AI.

Meanwhile, Google’s CEO Sundar Pichai stated that the Prime Minister has been dedicated to transforming India with his Digital India vision and has urged the company to manufacture and design products in India. Pichai revealed that the Prime Minister encouraged them to explore applications in healthcare, education, and agriculture.

He also emphasised India’s infrastructure, including data centres, power, and energy, and stressed the importance of investing to facilitate India’s transition. Pichai mentioned that Google is making substantial investments in AI in India and is looking forward to further contributions.

He added that the Prime Minister has urged Google to expand its AI efforts and ensure that AI benefits the people of India. Pichai highlighted the Prime Minister’s clear vision regarding the opportunities created by AI and his desire to ensure that AI ultimately benefits the people of India. He mentioned that the Prime Minister is challenging them to do more.

This meeting took place on Sunday at the Lotte New York Palace Hotel during the second leg of Modi’s three-day US visit. The Prime Minister participated in a roundtable discussion with CEOs of US-based firms that specialise in cutting-edge technologies such as AI, quantum computing, and semiconductors.
