Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin has informed Union Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi that the state will not implement the Prime Minister Vishwakarma scheme in its current form and has requested modifications.
Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin wrote to the Union Minister for MSME, stating that the state will not implement the PM Vishwakarma Scheme in its current form.
The CM emphasized that Tamil Nadu will create a more inclusive and comprehensive scheme for artisans, focusing on social justice and not discriminating based on caste.
A committee has been formed to study the scheme, addressing concerns about its potential to reinforce caste-based vocations.
CM Stalin stated that Tamil Nadu’s new scheme will support all artisans, regardless of caste or family occupations, offering financial assistance, training, and comprehensive support.
The Tamil Nadu-appointed committee recommended removing the requirement for applicants’ families to be traditionally involved in family-based trades.
The committee also proposed raising the minimum age for applicants to 35, ensuring they have made an informed decision to continue their family trade.
The Village Administrative Officer (VAO), not the Gram Panchayat head, will verify beneficiaries in rural areas.
The PM Vishwakarma Scheme, launched on 17th September 2023, offers benefits such as skill upgrades, toolkit incentives, and financial support up to Rs 3,00,000.
