On-demand convenience platform Swiggy said Monday it has launched an accelerator program that allows its delivery executives to transition into full-time managerial-level jobs with fixed salaries and perks. Swiggy noted that its “Step-Ahead” program, aims to provide opportunities for executives looking to move from their current flexible collaboration with the company to a focused management role.

It added that Swiggy is formalising the process and intends to retain at least 20 per cent of Fleet Manager employees for its delivery executives. Commenting on its delivery partner’s plans, Mihir Rajesh Shah, VP of Operations at Swiggy, said: “While most people may see their association with the platform as a stopgap between work or education, or even an additional revenue stream, we Realize that some people want more.”

He further said: “With ‘Step Ahead’, Swiggy is creating a unique opportunity for those interested in changing their collar from blue to white and taking on a management role.” Swiggy has more than 270,000 delivery collaborations across the country partner. To qualify as a fleet manager, a Swiggy delivery executive “must have a college degree, possess communication skills and basic computer knowledge, and should have been delivering at Swiggy for several years,” the company said. Swiggy has over 270,000 delivery partners nationwide.

Swiggy further said that it is also considering lowering the tenure requirement for working with the company to about two years. The company added that several delivery executives had joined the platform as fleet managers over the years.

Currently, Swiggy says its delivery partners receive benefits including accident and medical insurance, personal loans, legal aid, Covid income support, emergency support, income support during recovery from an accident or illness, bereavement leave, vacation, maternity insurance, and more.
