Supertech’s twin towers in Noida will be demolished on Sunday via a ‘controlled implosion’. The towers- Apex (32 floors) and Ceyane (29 floors) were found to be in violation of multiple construction rules, building regulations and fire safety norms. With this, the twin towers become India’s highest structures to be demolished. Having a height of almost 100 meters, the structure is taller than Qutub Minar.
For this purpose, around 3700 kgs of explosives have been infused into the building. According to the project engineer, the collapse will last for nine seconds and it will take around 12 minutes for the dust to settle. The surrounding area of 500 meters radius has been marked as an ‘exclusion zone.
In 2014, High Court ruled out that the developers need to demolish the towers within four months. The case, however, went to the Supreme Court. Supreme Court has observed that the builders of the structure have violated several building codes. The apex court had ordered the company to bear the demolition cost and the demolition process is to be done under the guidance of the Noida Authority.
