Shares of Star Health & Allied Insurance Company Ltd. fell by 2% after reaching a day’s high of Rs 571.95 on 10th October. This was following the firm’s revelation of a massive data leak in which anonymous hackers allegedly exposed the sensitive information of over 3 crore customers.

The hackers claim to have accessed and leaked sensitive information, including customer names, policy numbers, mobile numbers, PAN numbers, addresses, claims information, and medical reports.

They have also made serious allegations, stating that Amarjeet Khanuja, Star Health’s Chief Information Security Officer (CISO), sold them the leaked data.

In response to the breach, the company described it as a “targeted malicious cyberattack” that led to unauthorised access to certain data.

They assured stakeholders that a thorough forensic investigation led by independent cybersecurity experts is ongoing. They confirmed that the CISO is cooperating with the investigation and that no wrongdoing has been found against him so far.

Star Health emphasised its commitment to transparency, stating that it is collaborating closely with government and regulatory authorities throughout the investigation.

As a precaution, the Madras High Court has ordered all relevant parties, including some third parties, to restrict access to the leaked information.

The company reassured customers that operations are unaffected and all services continue without disruption.

At 12:12 PM, the shares of Star Health were trading 2% lower at Rs 566.15 on NSE.
