Sri Lanka will exhaust the $500 million credit line provided by India for fuel after delivering another 120,000 tons of diesel and 35,000 tons of petrol in April. India will ship the following stock of 40,000 tons of diesel on April 15 and another similar consignment on April 18. Negotiations are going on to increase the credit facility. India has already provided a $500 million credit line for purchasing fuel from the Indian Oil Company. After delivering these consignments, $468 million out of $500 million will be exhausted.
Meanwhile, Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said that “Sri Lanka is a neighbour and a close friend of India, and the country is closely watching the developments in the island nation. We are ready to continue working with Sri Lanka to speed up the economic recovery. This is in line with our neighbourhood first policy and we have already communicated to them our willingness to extend whatever support we can and as has been shown by our actions till now.”
