Indian low-cost airline SpiceJet Ltd has entered into a settlement agreement with Dublin-based aircraft lessor Goshawk Aviation Ltd and its affiliates for three Boeing aircraft.
On Tuesday, SpiceJet reported that this agreement would enable the airline to add one more Boeing 737-800 NG aircraft and two fuel-efficient Boeing 737 MAX aircraft to its fleet. The terms of the agreement are, however, kept confidential.
Lately, SpiceJet has been in trouble with its lessors, United Arab Emirates aeronautics firm AWAS and Ireland-based Alterna Aircraft Ltd. The lessors had asked the Indian aviation regulator to de-register their planes due to alleged payment defaults by the airline.
Last week, Reuters, a news agency owned by Thomson Reuters, reported that lenders Yes Bank, IDFC First Bank and Indian Bank had put their loans to the airline in the high-risk category. However, SpiceJet rejected these claims.
Founded in 2004, The Company has a fleet size of nearly 102 aircraft. It has its operating bases in Delhi and Hyderabad. Headquartered in Gurugram, SpiceJet employs 14,578 people as of 2021.
