Shashi Shanker, has been appointed as the Chairman and Managing Director of ONGC,India’s biggest oil and gas producer, till March 2021.
Shanker, who is currently Director(Technical and Field Services) at ONGC, was named as CMD till his superannuation, by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet(ACC), as against an initial one-year term proposed by the Oil Ministry.
As per an official order, ACC, headed by PM Narendra Modi,however, appointed Shanker as Chairman and Managing Director of ONGC,”till the date of his superannuation or until further orders,whichever is earlier.” Shanker will take charge from October 1, when the current chairman Dinesh K Sarraf retires.
