Sembcorp Industries, on 18 December, announced that its unit has partnered up with two Japanese firms to supply green ammonia produced in India to Japan as the company goes towards strengthening its position as a major green energy supplier.
The company’s subsidiary, Sembcorp Green Hydrogen Pte, signed an MoU (memorandum of understanding) with Sojitz Corp and energy major Kyushu Electric Power for a potential opportunity for green ammonia production.
The company said, “With green ammonia as a critical energy source to decarbonise Japan’s power supply mix, the partnership will support the (Japanese) government’s goal to achieve net zero by 2050.”
In November, the company said that it would invest around $7.88 billion, which is 75% of its total investment in 2024-2028, with an aim to support renewable growth, as it aims to halve the carbon emissions by 2028.
The investment will also expand the company’s footprint in India, where it already has a gross renewable portfolio of 3.7 giga-watts.
