The Supreme Court on Monday has directed the airline to pay around Rs 372 crore to the income tax department for non payment of tax deducted at source from the salaries of its employees.
Taxmen demanded around Rs 302 crore towards TDS and Rs 70 crore as an interest for the assessment years 2010-11, 2011-12, and 2012-13.
“We do not find any legal and valid ground for interference. The special leave petitions are dismissed,” the bench of Justices said.
The I-T department has alleged that Kingfisher Airlines was found to have deducted tax at source (TDS) from the salary payments but has not deposited it in the government’s account.
The tax demand was made after the department come to know about the non-payment of tax and after following searches at the business premises of the company.
