The Supreme Court appointed a committee on the three new farm laws has invited farmer associations for talks on January 21. The committee held its first meeting on Tuesday at the Pusa campus in New Delhi to decide the future course of action, its member Anil Ghanwat said.
The committee met on Tuesday and has invited the farmer associations for a meeting on January 21. The committee also requested the farmer unions to hold talks while asserting that the members do not belong to any political party or the government.
“Those who want to come and meet us physically can come here. Others can join via video conferencing. Those kisan sanghathans who say they don’t want to speak to us, we request them that we are not with any political party or government, they should come and speak to us. We are requesting them,” a committee member said.
SC-appointed panel member Pramod Kumar Joshi said the objective of the committee is to ensure the benefit of the farmers. “We have considered how the committee will work,” he said.
Pramod Kumar Joshi said, “We have been instructed by the Supreme Court to listen to all farmer associations, farm produce traders, dairy industry and see what they have to say on the farm laws. Whether they want a change or repeal or don’t want that”
“We will listen to all and file a report in Supreme Court,” he said, adding, “Our work is limited to listening to all stakeholders and file a report.”
On the allegations of bias, he said, “That’s their views. Our ideology earlier could have been anything but today, we are Supreme Court nominees. Our jobs and our duties are to hear them all.”
