Reliance Industries Secures 10 GWh ACC Capacity Under PLI Scheme for Battery Manufacturing

The ministry awarded the 10 GWh PLI ACC capacity to Reliance Industries Ltd., the top-ranked bidder.

The Ministry of Heavy Industries announced on 4th September that Reliance Industries Ltd. has been awarded 10 GWh capacity for Advanced Chemistry Cell (ACC) manufacturing under the PLI Scheme.

The company was chosen via a worldwide bidding process. Seven major firms put in offers, including ACME Cleantech Solutions, Amara Raja Advanced Cell Technologies, JSW Neo Energy, and Waaree Energies.

The final evaluation of the shortlisted bidders was conducted using the Quality & Cost Based Selection (QCBS) mechanism, ranking them based on their combined technical and financial scores.

The ministry awarded the 10 GWh PLI ACC capacity to Reliance Industries Ltd., the top-ranked bidder. The remaining five shortlisted bidders—ACME Cleantech, Amara Raja, Waaree Energies, JSW Neo Energy, and Lucas TVS—are placed on the waiting list according to their rank.

In May 2021, the Cabinet approved a technology-agnostic PLI Scheme under the ‘National Programme on Advanced Chemistry Cell (ACC) Battery Storage’ to achieve 50 GWh of ACC manufacturing capacity with a budget of Rs 18,100 crore.

The first round of ACC PLI bidding concluded in March 2022, awarding 30 GWh capacity to three firms. The agreement with these selected firms was signed in July 2022.

The plan seeks to give a boost to home-grown manufacturing, cut down on the need for imports, and give a helping hand to Make in India and Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan. The PLI ACC program pushes for the making of tech-neutral ACCs, aiming to put India at the forefront of this field worldwide.
