Reliance Industries has acquired soft drink brands Campa and Sosyo from Pure Drink Group as part of its strategy to expand its fast-moving consumer goods business, CNBC TV-18 reported on August 31.
The acquisition of the iconic Campa brand could put the company in competition with Pepsi and Coca-Cola in the beverage market. These brands may relaunch this year.
The acquisition news comes just days after Reliance Retail Ventures Ltd director Isha Ambani announced on August 29 that the company’s retail arm would enter the fast-moving consumer goods space.
Through this attempt, Reliance Retail will compete with FMCG giants such as Hindustan Unilever, Nestle, Britannia and others in an industry worth more than $110 billion.
Reliance Retail already has a presence in the space through its various private labels sold in grocery chains of companies such as Reliance Smart, Reliance Mart and its online grocery platform JioMart. Brands like Yeah! Colas and Snac Tac noodles are some of the company’s brands in the FMCG segment. Private labels, including the fashion and lifestyle segment, contribute 65% of the company’s revenue.
