Lining with its endeavours to digitise its chronicles, the Ministry of Railways has mandated the online registration for transportation of goods collaborating with the National transporter. The new guidelines will come into effect starting November 1.
According to the notice issued by the Railway Ministry on Monday, the step has been undertaken “with an objective to attain digitalisation, minimising detention to progressing stock and restructuring transactions in the freight business.” The new rules will apply to all indents sited with zonal railways, excluding military traffic, goods transported in natural disasters, and events identified as force majeure by the authorities.
The new policy will substitute the existing practice of imminent goods clerks to registering petitions for wagons, and essential changes in the digital infrastructure will be commenced by the Centre for Railway Information Systems (CRIS) and Freight Operations Information Systems (FOIS). “An official said that loading rakes in high-demand areas get hindered due to the requirement for physical registration and confirmation at the booking and loading time.

These processes, once brought online, could marginally contribute to the national transporters’ attempts to drop wagon reversal time. Under its ‘Hungry For Cargo’ task, the railway’s goal is to record 2000 million tons (mt) by 2024.
Recently, the Railway Ministry also digitised the entire process of applying for and granting non-fare income contracts such as parking lot operations, parcel space, and commercial advertising. The national transporter has earned Rs 844 crore from the e-auction model.
