Prime Minister Narendra Modi Arrived in Russia, Participated in 22nd India-Russia Annual Summit

The annual summit between the two leaders is the highest mechanism for steering and driving cooperation between India and Russia.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Moscow, Russia on July 8 for a three-day official visit to Russia and Austria. He was given a Guard of Honour at Moscow Airport and was welcomed by the First Deputy Prime Minister of Russia, Denis Manturov.

During the 22nd Annual Summit between India and Russia, Prime Minister Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin discussed various bilateral issues, including defence, trade connections, investment ties, energy cooperation, education, culture, and people-to-people exchanges.

They also exchanged views on regional and global developments of mutual interest. The leaders evaluated the status of bilateral engagements in groups like BRICS, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, the G20, the East Asia Summit, and the UN.

The Russian President organized a private dinner for the Prime Minister, who also engaged with the Indian community in Russia.

Additionally, the prime minister laid a wreath at the Tomb Of The Unknown Soldier in the Kremlin and visited the Rosatom Pavilion at the exhibition venue in Moscow. These activities were followed by talks at both restricted and delegation levels.

India and Russia have maintained a Special and Privileged Partnership since 2020, which has persisted despite numerous geopolitical challenges. The annual summit between the two leaders is the highest mechanism for steering and driving cooperation between India and Russia.

In the second part of his two-nation tour, the Prime Minister will visit Austria on July 9 at the invitation of the Chancellor of Austria.

This marks the Prime Minister’s first visit to Austria and is anticipated to generate positive outcomes for India-Austria relations. He will engage in restricted delegation-level talks with the Chancellor of Austria and high-level business discussions, paving the way for enhanced cooperation.

Austria is a significant central European country and presents excellent opportunities for bilateral cooperation in infrastructure, renewable energy, high-tech fields, start-up sectors, media, and entertainment.
