On International Women’s Day, President Ram Nath Kovind granted the Nari Shakti Puraskars to 29 women for 2020 and 2021. Twenty-eight awards were given to the women for their women’s empowerment. The Nari Shakti Puraskar is a Women and Child Development Ministry initiative to appreciate the contribution made by individuals and institutions and to celebrate women as game-changers and motivations of positive change in society.

The recipients are from entrepreneurship, agriculture, innovation, social work, education and literature, arts and crafts, STEM, disability rights, merchant navy and wildlife conservation. The latest awardees are Anita Gupta, Ushaben Dineshbhai Vasava, Nasira Akhter, Nivruti Rai, Saylee Nandkishor Agavane, Vanita Jagdeo Borade and Neena Gupta.

PM Modi also interacted with these awardees and said that the success of government efforts is dependent on the contribution of women. He also said that it is essential to make sure that all women should become part of decision-making in their family which will follow due to their economic empowerment.
