In an effort to allay the worries of rice millers, Food and Consumer Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi announced on Sunday, 27 October 2024, the opening of an online grievance redressal platform. With an emphasis on transportation expenses and procurement delays, the portal is intended to expedite the settlement of problems encountered by rice millers.
The Food Corporation of India (FCI) has granted regional authorities the power to regulate additional transportation expenses that rice millers incur, Minister Joshi underlined. If there is still no space available at designated depots after a waiting period of 15 days, this clause will come into force.
In order to address previous problems, the minister further pledged that the procurement platform has been modified as necessary. He underlined that the millers were already happy with how the issue was resolved.
The government is dedicated to reaching the 185 lakh metric tons (LMT) target established for the Kharif Marketing Season (KMS) 2024–2025, Joshi said in reference to procurement targets.
