Prime Minister Narendra Modi will, on Thursday, lay the foundation stone for the reconstruction of five railway stations in Tamil Nadu – Chennai Egmore, Rameshwaram, Madurai, Katpadi and Kanyakumari. Reconstruction of railway stations costing over Rs 1,800 crore will be completed. The project has been undertaken to enhance the convenience and comfort of the passengers through modern facilities.
Also, PM is scheduled to inaugurate 1,152 houses built under the ‘Light House Project-Chennai’ and the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban at Rs 116 crore. The PM will lay the foundation stone of 11 projects worth over Rs 31,500 crore in Chennai.
The 75 km Madurai-Teni (Rail Gauge Improvement Project) costing over Rs 500 crore will boost tourism in the region, while the 30 km third railway line between Tambaram-Chengalpattu costs over Rs 590 crore will boost tourism in the region’s Suburban connectivity.
