Prime Minister Narendra Modi to launch a new digital payment solution e-RUPI, tomorrow by video conferencing. The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) said in a statement that several programmes had been rolled out to benefit their intended beneficiaries in a focused and leak-proof manner.

e-RUPI is a cashless and contactless platform for digital payments. The instrument works as an e-voucher based on a QR code or SMS, which will be delivered to the mobile phone of recipients. The concept of electronic vouchers takes forward this vision of good governance. The users of this one-time payment mechanism can redeem the voucher without a card, digital payments app or internet banking access, PMO said.

It has been developed by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) on its UPI platform, in partnership with the Department of Financial Services, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare and National Health Authority. e-RUPI connects the sponsors of the services with the beneficiaries and service providers in a digital form. It also assures that the payment to the service provider is made only after the transaction is completed. It ensures timely payment to the service provider without the involvement of any mediator, the statement said.
