Prime Minister Narendra Modi today announced a commemorative coin of Rs 75, denoting the relation of India with Food and Agriculture Organisation(FAO). The Rs 75 coin is released on the occasion of 75th Anniversary of FAO.
PM Modi also dedicated the coin to 17 nations who have recently developed biofortified varieties of eight crops on World Food Day. He said that the government is committed towards the procurement of agricultural crops at minimum support price (MSP) and added it as an important part of the country’s food security. The efforts are being made for improving Mandi’s infrastructure so that MSP buying continues in a scientific way, he added.
“MSP and government procurement are an important part of the country’s food security. It is important that it continues to function with better facilities and in a scientific way. We are committed towards this,” said PM Modi.
In the last six years, the government has been investing in boosting infrastructure facilities at Agriculture Produce Marketing Committees (APMCs) for having their own identity and strength in the country.
The event held marked the highest priority accorded by the government to agriculture and nutrition. The effort of the government is also being witnessed by Anganwadis, Krishi Vigyan Kendras, Organic and Horticulture Missions in eliminating hunger, undernourishment and malnutrition completely across the country.
