Prime Minister Narendra Modi will dedicate a Rs 40,000 crore project to link 11 rivers in Rajasthan to make the state water surplus, according to Union Jalshakti Minister C R Patil.
The Prime Minister will inaugurate this project on 17th December.
The Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh governments signed an MoU in January 2024 with the Ministry of Jal Shakti to prepare detailed project reports and plan the Modified Parbati-Kalisindh-Chambal (MPKC) link project, integrated with the Eastern Rajasthan Canal Project (ERCP).
The project will improve the water crisis in both Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh.
The MPKC link project involves major rivers such as Chambal, Parbati, Kalisindh, Kuno, Banas, Banganga, Ruparail, Gambhiri, and Mej.
The project is expected to supply water to 21 newly constituted districts in Rajasthan, including Jhalawar, Kota, Bundi, Tonk, Sawai Madhopur, and others, as well as districts in Madhya Pradesh like Guna, Shivpuri, and Ujjain.
The project will serve multiple purposes, including drinking water supply, irrigation, and meeting industrial water demands.
