Prime Minister Narendra Modi will begin a two-day visit to Gujarat on Saturday, where he will address “Khadi Utsav” by the Sabarmati River in Ahmedabad.
Khadi Utsav is a one-of-a-kind event that is part of the centre’s “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav” to highlight the importance of khadi in India’s struggle for freedom.
Officially, the Utsav will be held on the Sabarmati River on Saturday night, where 7,500 Khadi artisans from various districts in Gujarat will spin the charkha (spinning wheel) simultaneously place.
The event will also showcase the “Evolution of the Charkhas” by showcasing 22 spinning wheels in use since 1920.
According to a press release, the exhibit will showcase the “Yerwada charkha” used in the freedom struggle and a variety of spinning wheels featuring the latest innovations and technologies used today.
There will also be a live demonstration of making Ponduru Khadi. A new office building for the Rajya Khadi Gramodyog Council in Gujarat and a pedestrian bridge over the Sabarmati River will also be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the event.
On Sunday, the Prime Minister will inaugurate the “Smriti Van” in Bhuj to celebrate the people’s resilience after the 2001 Gujarat earthquake, laying the foundation stone for Bhuj and launching various development projects. He will speak at a project in Gandhinagar to mark Suzuki’s 40th anniversary in India.
