Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to Tagore on Monday, saying he would continue to inspire the minds and actions of millions. On their birthdays, Prime Minister Modi also paid tribute to freedom fighter Gopal Krishna Gokhale and brave King Mewar Maharana Pratap.
In honour of Tagore, born in 1861, Prime Minister Modi said: “I bow to Gurudev Tagore on his Jayanti. He continues to inspire the minds and actions of millions. He taught us to feel our country. Pride, culture and spirit. He emphasized education, learning and social empowerment. We are committed to his vision for India.”
A poet, playwright, composer, philosopher and short story writer, Tagore won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1913.
The Prime Minister paid tribute to Gokhale, saying: “His contribution to our freedom struggle is unforgettable. His unwavering commitment to democratic principles and social empowerment has always inspired us.” The acclaimed Maharana Pratap is brave and Synonymous with valour; he added that his story of courage and struggle will always inspire people.
