PM Modi and US President-elect Trump Commit to Strengthening Bilateral Ties in Phone Call

Former Ambassador Ashok Sajjanhar predicts that India and the US will deepen their cooperation under Trump 2.0.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President-elect Donald Trump reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral ties across various sectors, according to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA). In a phone conversation, Modi congratulated Trump on his “spectacular and resounding victory,” noting the American people’s deep trust in his leadership.

Modi congratulated Trump on his re-election as US President and the Republican Party’s success in the Congressional elections.

Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral ties in the technology, defence, energy, and space sectors.

PM Modi shared on X that he had a “great conversation” with his “friend” Trump.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) provided details of the key points discussed during their phone call.

Both leaders emphasised the importance of the India-US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership for the benefit of their countries and global peace and stability.

The MEA statement mentioned that PM Modi reflected on the positive momentum of the India-US partnership during Trump’s first term, recalling their memorable interactions, including the ‘Howdy Modi’ event in Houston (September 2019) and the ‘Namaste Trump’ event in Ahmedabad (February 2020).

In a stunning political comeback, Trump, 78, defeated his Democratic rival Kamala Harris to become the 47th President of the US. He had previously served as the 45th President after winning the 2016 election.
