Petrol prices on Monday continued to be on the rise. For the first time in the last two years, the rates of petrol and diesel have increased at such a huge pace.
From November 20 till now, oil companies have increased the prices of petrol and diesel 15 times in a row. Petrol, diesel prices went to this level last time in September 2018.
On Monday, the price of petrol has increased by 30 to 33 paise whereas diesel has become expensive by 25 to 31 paise. Petrol price in Delhi rose to Rs 83.71 per liter from Rs 83.41 per liter on Sunday. Diesel rates went up from Rs 73.61 to Rs 73.87 per liter, according to a price notification of oil marketing companies.
In Mumbai, petrol and diesel prices were raised to Rs 90.34 per liter and Rs 80.51 per liter respectively. Petrol in Kolkata has increased from Rs 84.86 per liter to Rs 85.19 per liter today. In Chennai, petrol is being sold at Rs 86.51.
Global crude prices have firmed up recently over the news of the successful coronavirus vaccine. It has risen almost $10 a barrel in the last month to reach closer to $50 a barrel now.
With Monday’s increase, fuel prices have now increased on 15 of the past 18 days with petrol prices rising by Rs 2.65 per litre and diesel by 3.41 a litre.
