One97 Communications Limited, which owns leading payments and financial services company Paytm, launched a special G20-theme QR Code on Friday to celebrate India’s presidency of the intergovernmental forum and the country’s leadership in mobile payments.
The QR code was launched by Union Minister for Railways and IT Ashwini Vaishnaw during ‘Digital Payment Utsav’ at India Habitat Centre.
As the pioneer of QR code payments, Paytm has played a significant role in India’s mobile payment revolution.
The special commemorative QR code includes the logo of MeitY’s ‘DigiDhan Mission’ and the logos of G20 2023 and India’s 75th year of independence.
“India is at the forefront of the mobile payments revolution, and as the pioneer of the QR code, Paytm is taking UPI to every corner of the country. Financial inclusion is at the heart of the G20, which resonates with our mission to bring half a billion Indians into the mainstream economy with our innovative payment solutions,” said Vijay Shekhar Sharma, Founder and CEO of Paytm.
“Paytm’s G20-theme QR code is dedicated to India’s presidency of the high-level forum for international economic cooperation, which is a landmark moment for India,” Sharma added.

The company said it would broadcast educational videos on digital payments to increase public awareness and usage of digital payments.
The company’s affiliate, Paytm Payments Bank, received MeitY’s top award for maintaining one of the lowest average technical dips (TD) in BHIM UPI transactions.
Paytm founder Sharma is also chair of the finance task force under ‘Startup20’.
The working group will provide global investors with a best practice framework for funding start-ups in G20 member countries and help build models that can be implemented in emerging ecosystems to build investment capacity.
Paytm dominates the offline payments space with 6.1 million devices deployed. Paytm Payments Bank remains the largest UPI beneficiary bank for 20 consecutive months, with more than 1,765.87 million transactions in January 2023, ahead of all other banks in the country.
With 389.61 million registered transactions, the bank is among the top 10 remittance banks for UPI transactions, according to the latest NPCI report.
