The Covid-19 vaccine doses distributed in the country crossed over 171 Crores on Wednesday, the Union Health Ministry announced. More than 1.60 Crores precaution doses have been administered so far to healthcare workers, frontline workers and adults over 60 years of age. More than 1 Crore youngsters between the ages of 15 to 18 years have been successfully vaccinated with both doses.
Union Health and Family Welfare Minister Mansukh Mandaviya said on Twitter that it is a historic accomplishment by young India that over 1 Crore youngsters between 15 to 18 years have now been fully vaccinated against Covid-19.
The nationwide vaccination drive was rolled out on January 16 last year, with healthcare workers (HCWs) vaccinated in the first phase. The vaccination of frontline workers (FLWs) started on February 2 last year. Then from March 1 last year for people over 60 years of age and those aged 45. The government then expanded its vaccination drive by allowing everyone above 18 to be vaccinated from May 1, 2021. The next phase of vaccination was started on January 3, 2022, in the age group of 15 to 18 years.
