Oriana Power to Construct Electrolyzer Gigafactory in India

The project will help the nation transition to clean energy and lessen its reliance on imports.

Oriana Power, a commercial and industrial solar company, on 6 August announced that it would be constructing a gigawatt-scale factory in India to manufacture alkaline electrolyzers and Balance of Plant (BOP) modules.

The project will help the nation transition to clean energy and lessen its reliance on imports by increasing domestic manufacturing of vital renewable energy technology. According to someone with knowledge of the situation, the company plans to invest $25–$35 million in the factory.

Devices known as alkaline electrolyzers use electrolysis to create hydrogen gas. An electric current is used in this procedure to split water into hydrogen and oxygen.

The company states that the factory will be put into operation in two stages. The first phase, which is anticipated to begin operations in 2026, will have a 500-megawatt (MW) annual capacity for electrolyzer output.

India is dependent on imports because it cannot create alkaline electrolyzers domestically.
According to the company, Splitwaters, a US-based supplier of state-of-the-art alkaline electrolyzer and BOP (Balance of Plant) equipment, is collaborating to establish the new factory.

Anirudh Saraswat, Chief Business Officer of Oriana Power, said, “The green hydrogen market faces significant challenges due to high initial capital costs and lengthy execution timelines, but Splitwaters’ one stop shop model and modular technology address both these issues effectively.”
