ANI Technologies, Ola’s parent company, is gearing up to establish small local warehouses known as dark stores to support its quick commerce service.
These dark stores are intended to maintain product inventories for swift delivery. To streamline operations, Ola is considering using robots to minimize the reliance on human workers in these warehouses, according to a report by the Economic Times.
Additionally, Ola is planning to launch its own Unified Payments Interface (UPI) for its customers. These strategic initiatives will be officially unveiled at the company’s annual Independence Day event on August 15.
Furthermore, Ola is exploring the possibility of allowing other businesses to leverage its dark stores infrastructure and employing electric two-wheelers for deliveries.
This strategic move by Ola aims to seize the ongoing and future demand for speedy deliveries in the e-commerce sector. The company’s proactive approach mirrors similar expansions in the dark store operations by competitors such as Blinkit and Zepto, signalling the widespread recognition of the need to meet the escalating demand for quick commerce.
Blinkit, owned by Zomato, plans to increase its number of dark stores to 2,000 by the end of 2026, up from 639 in the June quarter. Zepto also aims to double its dark stores to 700 by March 2025, compared to Blinkit’s 1,000 at the same time.
